My Splash of Color

Recently I purchased a new duvet cover and shams for the master bedroom.  They were a steal at Target, clearanced out at amazing prices.  I wasn't sure if I'd like adding the dark grey to my color palette in that room but with the sage green walls and black & white decor it seemed to go well.  Adding a white dust skirt helped break up the dark color but the room just needed something else.  A few weeks ago my daughter came to visit, she took one look at the bed and said 'it needs an orange pillow'.  I instantly could envision this orange pillow, so I started looking.  I looked everywhere!  Lots of red, lots of rusty orange, but I was looking for a brighter orange.  I checked on Etsy.com and found lots and lots of beautiful pillows in all shades of orange.  The prices stopped me from ordering, I really didn't want to spend $50 for a pillow.  That's when I decided to make one.  So, off I went to my favorite fabric store, Sew Unique Threads in Battle Creek, where I found just the right fabric.  Then off to JoAnn's to buy a pillow form.  I found a nice big one that was 14" x 28".  Anyway, 45 minutes in my sewing room and I had this fabulous splash of color in my bedroom for about $25.  What do you think?

I have to mention another one of my favorite things, it's the scent of sheets after they've hung outside to dry on a breezy cool day.  That was the scene here yesterday, my sheets blowing in the breeze, then last night crawling into the crisp clean sheets and breathing deeply to savor the scent of the fresh outdoors.  I really slept well last night.

Thank you for letting me share more of my favorite things and now it's your turn to add your own splash of color to a drab room!

  2. Thanks Theresa, yes it's a king. Gray is really popular right now so you should be able to find something you like. BB&B had some gray too.
