Whether you love stamps, paper, embellishments, fabric or yarn, it really is always the same. We see something we love, whether it's in our favorite colors, or we're stretching out to encompass something totally radical to our norm, but for whatever reason we buy it, ogle over it, then add it to our 'collection'.
Today's project is a knitted hat, the Baby Cable Switchback Hat by I Live on a Farm. Isn't it funny, I don't wear hats. But what I fell in love with was the colors, and the tiny little cables that I just had to learn to do. My favorite yarn shop didn't have this particular yarn, and although I could have easily substituted I was determined that I wanted my hat to look EXACTLY like the picture. Fortunately I was able to find this yarn online. It's made with Classic Elite's Montera, it's a wonderful combination of very soft llama and wool yarns. So yummy to touch and would probably feel wonderful on my head. Once I had the pattern and yarn, I carefully added it to my 'collection', or my stash as I so lovingly call it. After about 2 years I decided it was time to pull this project out and give it a whirl.
The challenge for this project was not only doing the baby cables (without a cable needle), but also using 4 double pointed needles. Yes, I've made lots of socks and other hats, but have always used 2 circular needles . So, those were the challenges, and here is my finished hat, just in time for spring!!! Huh?
Notice the embellishment, it's one of the jumbo size buttons from last years Holiday Mini. Cute!
If you have lots of buttons in YOUR stash, embellish something!
